What Makes Honma Better Than All The Others?

Have you compared the efficiency between Honma golf clubs and others? If you haven’t then probably you need to read through this guide. We would be answering the question ‘what makes honma better than all the others?’ Honma golf clubs are of great quality, if you’re interested in knowing more about them, then you should go through them.

Honma is certainly a manufacturer that one likes to associate with “luxury”.  HONMA Golf is more than a golf club manufacturer. It is the creator of the most beautiful and elegantly designed clubheads in golf, and of shafts brimming with innovation and technology at the service of the golfer. A brand whose equipment always inspires luxury, high class, and a guarantee of excellent performance that makes them unique.

And even if there are clubs from Honma under 200€/piece like the Tour World irons, you can’t blame anyone to have this association. Because Honma clubs with a high number of stars are simply too expensive. If you can pay more than 35.000 Euro for a 5-star Beres iron set, you simply have to talk about luxury.

Honma Beres

The concept of the Honma Beres is as follows: Players who have difficulty accelerating the club get extra light and a soft shaft to help them do so. Furthermore, all club heads are designed for maximum ball speeds and a high launch.

This is the only way to achieve high distances even at low speeds. The special thing about Honma Beres is on the one hand that all clubs are perfectly matched – from driver to sand wedge. And on the other hand, that the shafts, which are handmade in Japan, produce only a little undesired twisting despite the low weight and soft flex. So the ball flight is also controllable. Honma Beres is the gold standard in this respect and is particularly suitable for seniors and ladies.

Honma GS

The new Honma GS follows a similar line as Honma Beres with extra light shafts and light swing weight. They are designed for price-conscious players. The big difference is the quality of the shafts. While the Honma Beres are handmade in Japan, the Honma Speedtuned shafts are just a shaft designed in Japan.

As a result, the unwanted twists are a little more pronounced than with the Honma Beres. Apart from that, the Honma GS concept is very coherent and especially intended for players who want a complete set from driver to sand wedge with clubs that are matched to each other.

Types of Honma stars

  • HONMA 2 STARS

The 2-star variant represents the lowest category and is standard for Honma. But it is by no means as if the 2-star variant was inferior in any way. On the contrary. Already the 2 stars Beres are basically unrivaled. The reason is that Honmas’s own shafts are particularly light and soft and nevertheless show good torque values.

This combination is particularly difficult to realize in production. But this is exactly what makes Honma clubs so well known and popular. Despite the quite high entry price. After all, a 2 star Beres set already costs around 3,000 Euros and a driver over 1,000 Euros.

  • HONMA 3 STARS

Nevertheless, the majority of players go with 3 stars, even if 2 stars are the cheapest entry. 3 stars have the advantage that they are available in much more variants in Europe and that means practically no waiting times even in quite exotic configurations.

The 3 stars Honmas are a bit better in the quality of the shaft. The difference in the iron heads between 2 and 3 stars is due to slightly different steel. At least a 3-star iron is very easy to bend and thus to adjust Lie and Loft. With a 2 star iron, this is not so easy.

  • HONMA Golf – BERES 4-Stars

When you go to a golf shop (an authorized dealer of the brand) you will hardly find any 4 and 5-Star golf clubs, since they are practically all custom designs. This means that you will first be invited to go through the exclusive HONMA fitting experience, and then every component of the clubs you have ordered will be manufactured to your personal specifications from scratch by hand by Honma’s Takumi (master craftsmen) in Sakata, Japan.

It is best to play with custom clubs, and these will be exceptional. But be patient, don’t forget that the delivery time can be up to two or three months.

The 4-Star ARMRQ shafts feature a higher quality carbon fiber and superior strength, contributing to minimize dispersion and achieve more homogeneous shots. Regarding the finish of the clubheads, gold is used in some of the finishes and in the ferrules that cover the union between the head and the shaft.

If a single golf club is already outstanding on its own, the entire set inside a HONMA Golf bag will shine brighter still, even from a distance. The most illustrious is, undoubtedly, the 4-Star driver, but we have to tell you that you can’t top the 5-Star version!

It should be noted that in the 4-Star range most of the customizations are included in the price, such as personalizing the color of the driver’s head, the color of the shaft, or printing your initials or a small logo.

  • HONMA 5 STARS

No question about it. 5-star clubs are extremely rare and even we as a long-time Honma dealer have sold very few sets and woods of them. They are definitely unique. Each club is manufactured individually in Japan – the delivery time is correspondingly long. The 5 stars Beres are mostly gold-plated.

Now you have to ask yourself what value this has for a player. And here one must say clearly that gold-plated club heads are more like a gimmick. Nevertheless, a 5-star club has its justification as we will see soon.

WHAT MAKES HONMA BETTER THAN ALL THE OTHERS?

With every manufacturer, you should ask yourself what makes them special and unique. For most big manufacturers this is just marketing – just because they have the big names of the tour under the contract does not make the clubs better at the same time.

At Honma, these are quite clearly the in-house shafts like Vizard or ArmRQ. These are pulled by hand and have extremely low fluctuations in regards to shaft quality. These are sometimes very high with many other shafts.

This means that no shaft is like the other. For example, we at ExactGolf only use shafts from manufacturers such as Nippon or Shimada which are also very good in this respect. This does not mean that the shafts from Honma are always better.

However, they are the best in a certain range. And these are the light and soft graphite shafts which nevertheless have little torque. This means that although the shaft can be very light and soft, the twisting during the stroke does not go in an undesirable direction.

The higher the number of stars, the better these values are. The 2-star shafts are already very, very good, but 3, 4 and 5 stars are even better. These also have a higher price tag as mentioned at the beginning.

So if you are looking for a manufacturer that is the best in this area, then the answer is without doubt Honma. These shafts are interesting for averagely good players, women, and seniors who simply need light and soft shafts for their game.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE STARS

It must be clearly stated that the real difference between a 2, 3, 4, or 5-star club is primarily the shaft. The ArmRQ shafts are hand-drawn and are unique in quality. They are also perfectly tuned to the heads which are not so obvious as one might think.

Basically, it is about offering Honma Beres players a shaft that is as soft and light as possible. That alone is no art. It becomes difficult if you want to keep the torque low with such a shaft. This torque indicates the unwanted twists of the shaft and everyone who wants to hit a straight and constant ball needs a shaft with low torque.

From the manufacturer’s point of view, this is anything but easy to achieve. But Honma masters this process like no other manufacturer. That and the fact that the production is very complex means very high costs.

With these shafts, you produce a lot of rejects that simply do not meet the high-quality standards of Honma. The higher the number of stars, the higher these quality requirements and accordingly the rejects. That is why prices are also rising by leaps and bounds.

Each BERES is handcrafted to provide the best performance and the confidence golfers seek. The difference between stars is not, therefore, a matter of being better or worse golf clubs, since they are built to work in a sublime way in your hands, whatever their number of stars.

The difference is established by the performance of the materials, handled by a hundred artisans working in their production with the best components, and in the richness of the finishes, distilling the exclusivity with which you want to play – and show your class – on the golf course.

CONCLUSION

Reading through the above guide, you must have learned one or more things about the Honma golf club. If you are interested in getting one, you should not have any hesitations.
